Just when you’re getting used to the summer heat, fall is already knocking at your door! At The Chic, we’re all about getting the best bang for your buck and extending the life of your wardrobe. So don’t pack away all those summer clothes too soon! There are so many easy ways to transition your favorite summer pieces into the cooler months.
First and foremost – layer it up! There is no easier way to get that cozy-but-chic look by adding a classic cardigan, fun vest or scarf. We’re firm believers of more is more in this scenario. You can either create an easy-going, flowy look with looser, oversized items or add a belt to give an outfit more structure. And of course… Flannels. Need we say more?
Another easy way to transition any look is to add tights or leggings. Throw them on under your favorite dress or shorts, as long as the pattern isn’t strictly summer or the colors aren’t too hot! In the first look we chose to layer a Forever 21 floral sundress and a crochet crop top over tights. Add a fun bag like this metallic Fossil backpack, especially for all you back-to-schooler’s. Don’t forget to stack some jewelry – this sculptural necklace by Rea Designs adds the perfect edge.
Adding a pair of closed toe shoes, riding boots or combats immediately changes the vibe of any outfit and gives you that effortless fall feel. In the second look we paired maroon Forever 21 corduroy shorts with a breezy top by Patterson J. Kincaid and added a floppy felt hat. The fringe bag by 3AM Forever and dark lip ties the look together.
Accessorizing is a no brainer – but the options for fall are limitless. Chunky scarves, big bags, the perfect pair of sunnies… The list goes on! Make any outfit pop instantly with just a couple accent pieces like in our third look. We mixed a flowy maxi skirt with an Old Navy cotton blouse and Wilson’s black leather vest. Again, we added a chunky pendant by Rea Designs and a detailed brown leather purse for some extra flair.
